Information and advice on the day of your test IELTS Argentina

You may be a little nervous about your international English exam day. So that everything goes as smoothly as possible, we have compiled information that will help you know what will happen on the day of your IELTS exam. We also invite you to learn about the biosecurity protocols against COVID-19 that we will be taking into account to guarantee your peace of mind on the day of the test.

You will need to arrive half an hour early on time for the IELTS exam. You will receive an email at least seven days before the chosen exam date so that you know what time your English test begins. If you arrive late on the day of your written English exam (listening, reading, and writing), you will not be able to take the exam.

Suppose you have requested special arrangements due to disability or other illness. In that case, the necessary modifications will be made so that you can take your international English exam on the agreed day. Please contact our staff at the test site six weeks in advance.

Your IELTS Speaking test can be taken on the same day as the other sections of the IELTS exam or up to a week before or one day after that day. You will be notified in advance if your oral English exam takes place on a different day than the written English exam.

Ensure you are prepared and have something to eat and drink before the International English exam. You will not be able to eat food in the room where the exam is carried out, and you will only be able to take with you water in a transparent bottle.

How long does the IELTS test take?

The listening, reading and writing tests last 2 hours and 40 minutes, and there are no breaks between the different sections of the test.

The speaking exam can be taken on the same day as the other sections of the exam or up to a week before or after that day. You will be notified if your speaking exam takes place on a different day than the primary exam day.

Note that:

*In the listening comprehension test taken from a computer, the times are slightly different from those of the paper test. This is because the paper test requires users to transfer their answers to an answer sheet. This step is redundant when responding directly from a computer.

  • Before starting each part of the listening comprehension test, you will have time to read the questions.
  • After each part of the listening comprehension test, you will have time to review your answers.
  • You will have 2 minutes to check your answers at the end of the listening comprehension test.
  • Listening comprehension test time is 30-34 minutes.

What do I need to bring to the room where the English test is held?

You need to bring:

  • Your identification document
  • Pencil and a pen (you will need a pencil for listening and writing)
  • Eraser
  • Face mask

We recommend that you bring:

  • A transparent water bottle
  • Gloves
  • Hand sanitizer gel (the container that contains it must be transparent without labels)

You will not be able to take anything else with you to the room where the exam is performed.

Turn off your mobile phone and any other electronic devices. You will be asked to place these devices and other belongings outside the exam room.

All watches are prohibited in the room where the exam takes place. It would be best to leave your watch and your belongings in the secure baggage area. There will be a clock at the venue where the exam takes place.

What should I do with my belongings on the day of the IELTS test in Argentina?

There will be a secure area where you must leave all your belongings. You will be given a plastic bag to store your personal belongings; we will take care of disinfecting it. Once you have packed all your belongings, you can close the bag and label it without directly touching the contents.

Please note: At the end of the test, you must dispose of your bag in the containers located near / in the cloakroom. The British Council is not responsible for any loss or damage to your belongings at the test venue.

Therefore, we strongly recommend leaving valuables at home, such as mobile phones and computers.

When is my identity verified?

Staff at the IELTS test venue will check your identity when you arrive.

Do not forget to bring the same valid personal identification document (DNI or passport) you used when registering.

Invalid or expired personal identification documents will not be accepted. If you cannot provide a valid confidential identification document, you will not be able to take the exam.

When will my picture be taken for the IETLS test day?

Your photograph will be taken on the day of the exam as an additional security measure and will appear on your Transcript.

What if I need help during the IELTS English test?

If you have any questions during the exam, raise your hand and ask for help.

When you take the IELTS Listening test, check that you can hear the sound properly. Raise your hand immediately and let the supervisor know you cannot hear the recording.

Remember that you will have 10 minutes after the listening comprehension section to fill in your answer sheet. You won't have 10 minutes after the reading comprehension section, so make sure you write your answers on your answer sheet as you complete each section.

If you need to go to the bathroom during the exam, raise your hand to get the proctor's attention. Do not disturb other examinees.

What happens at the end of the exam?

Stay in your seat until the supervisor permits you to leave the room.

If you think there has been a problem that may affect your performance, please report it to your supervisor immediately.

If you want to raise a problem or make a complaint, ask your supervisor for a "Test Day Incident Form" to fill out.

I am a minor; do I need authorization?

Yes, any candidate between the ages of 11 - 17 must submit the following forms signed by their parent/guardian:

Consentimiento para rendir el examen

Consentimiento para retirarse de las instalaciones sin acompañamiento
