Lenguas para la Resiliencia

The Language for Resilience conference consisted of a two day programme, with an institutional focus on Day 1 and an educational focus on Day 2.

Main themes included :

  • Theory and practice of language teaching and learning in refugee and migrant contexts
  • Sharing of best practice, learned lessons and innovative approaches from government and civil society
  • The role of language and education in building resilience and integration of refugees and migrants in host communities.

Programme by day

Day 1

The opening day had an institutional focus and included participation from UNHCR, IOM, the global lead for the British Council “Language for Resilience” programme, as well as educational institutions involved in language teaching for refugees and migrants.  In addition, a refugee learner panel shared their experiences and perspectives as language learners. 

Day 2

The second day had a more educational focus and a greater number of teachers and those working in the area of language teaching for refugees and migrants were invited to attend. The programme included a presentation on the British Council´s remote teaching pilot project for refugees in Argentina.  There were also sessions led by specialists in the areas of language and inclusion, as well as the role of technology in language learning.
